Having lived here my entire adult life, I know one thing for certain and that is simply put, Oak Park has so much to offer residents. Oak Park is the first suburb located just west of Chicago and has a very deep and rich history which includes being the birthplace of Prairie School architecture and it is also the home of the world's largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright homes.
Oak Park is known as a diverse, exciting, and very desirable place to live. Rich in culture and architecture, there are many art galleries, studios, and antique shops. Oak Park is also the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway. Read more about Oak Park local attractions.

Oak Park has excellent transportation serviced by 3 train lines, a highway system, and bus routes which enables you to be in downtown Chicago within 17-25 minutes! Both airports are about 20 minutes away as is the Oak Brook shopping center to our west. You simply cannot beat Oak Park's location!
Our parks are very well maintained. All the homes are a short walk to one of the many parks in the Oak Park area.

Downtown Oak Park offers a great overview of our many shops and restaurants which includes a seven screen movie theater. Oak Park Area Map gives you a great visual of the Oak Park area. Getting Around Oak Park details the many available transportation options you have. As you will see, Oak Park is so conveniently located to everything. One of the most well known character of Oak Park is it's lively Art Community. For twenty five years the art community has been highlighted and encouraged in Oak Park and River Forest. The have gathered the artisans, and musical talents, the ballet and art galleries all in one place. So if your curious on a Sunday afternoon, take a look at all that Oak Park and River Forest have to offer. Also, please visit the Oak Park Arts Council.
The main branch of the Oak Park Library features over 100,000 sq ft which includes a children's room on the first floor. Oak Park Parks gives you great information on the many parks and recreational programs offered to the residents of Oak Park.
The Historical Society of Oak Park has painstakingly gathered up the past with pictures and stories to delight and educate us. From our tender beginnings back in 1835 when Joesph and Betty Kettlestrings built their home near the corner of Lake and Harlem to the first African American to live in Oak Park, Mr. Percy Lavon Julian, the historical society will remain the keepers of the past. We are very proud to have the greatest collection of homes designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Oak Park features many styles of vintage homes. This is a classic example of the "Gunderson American Four Square" home. Many of these beauties have been restored to their original features with the added modern ameneties such as new kitchens and baths.
You will find Oak Park filled with beautiful tree lined streets and residents who take great pride in their homes.
The "Prairie Bread Kitchen" is a delicious example of one of Oak Parks specialty bakeries. Located next to the train station it is a popular destination for commuters. Try the cinnamon raisin bread!
Downtown Oak Park even has its own old time art deco movie theater. The Lake Theater has been restored with seven screens playing all current releases. If stadium seating theater is your preference there is a CineMark Theater just 3 miles away.
Oak Park boasts many vintage condominium buildings. Pictured here is the famous "Santa Maria". The exterior was completly renovated in the 1990's.
